WGN Channel 9 - Len Johnson and the News (Part 2, 1965)
Here's Part 2 (the final part) of an incredibly rare find - an edition of Len Johnson and the News on WGN Channel 9 from 1965! This was a forerunner to their overnight Night Beat newscast that ran from the late-sixties well into the 1980s.
You'll notice that this was during that awkward transition phase from black-and-white to color with most of the broadcast appearing in black-and-white, but then interspersed by random color commercials and a few color slides.

Here's some rare footage from another long-lost local movie show - "The Money Movie" on WSNS TV-44! The movie presented on this day was "China Gate". TMM was similar in concept to Dialing for Dollars. Viewers (mostly lonely housewives and old people from what it sounds like) would send in post cards with their name and phone number, and the host would call them live on the air during the movie breaks to see if they could answer some trivia questions. They answered an easy preliminary questio...

Views: 2633 Here's Part 1 of "New Year's Eve: Chicago Style" - a special on WBBM Channel 2. Unfortunately, the recording starts during a commercial break and we miss the first 10 minutes or so of the broadcast - still, lots of local fun in this one. :-)
Here are a couple bumper excerpts from the When Movies Were Movies presentation of "The Petrified Forest" (1936) on WGN Channel 9.
This is an early example of the particular "style" of this long-running movie showcase as would be seen in color on this 1979 opening and
Gary Deeb (the Tribune's TV-radio critic at the time) wrote in his column for Monday, December 31st 1979 - "The Local Line: Speaking of New Year's Eve, if you want to laugh yourself into convulsions, tune to WBBM-Ch. 2 about 11:40pm fo...

This is a tremendous find - not only do we have another (mostly) complete Chicago Emmy Awards telecast - this one from the 70s - as part of the 20th Anniversary they decided to have a retrospective of the local TV stations! So we get to see some footage, slides and pictures, which apparently at this point in 1978 were not yet thrown out or forgotten by the TV stations. (Some of the clips or bu...

Host Ray Rayner once again explaining the program's "four commercial interruptions" format, and introducing a commercial for Bactine disinfectant, with a child who'd scraped his knee - "Helps the Hurt Stop Hurting"
Next, Ray introduces a commercial for One-a-Day Plus Iron (with ten vitamins plus i...
KTLA Channel 5 [Los Angeles, CA] - The Snipets - "Acorn Whistle" (1980)

Here's another rare Snipets segment! (or as it was amusingly called here "The Snipets"). These originally were created by and [primarily] aired on the Kaiser Broadcasting / Field Communications stations such as WFLD Channel 32, in the 1970's and early '80's.
However, in yet another discovery that broadens the history of where these aired - this one was discovered by Joe D'Angelo on a Betamax recording of a broadcast of the educational kids program, "Big Blue Marble" on KTLA C...
