Kaiser Broadcasting Company (ID #1, 1977)

Here it is at long last! A complete Kaiser Broadcasting ID! I wish I could say this was from a Chicago recording, but it actually comes from a tape made off of one of WFLD's sister stations - WKBD Channel 50 in Detroit.

As you can hear at the end of this clip (in an extremely brief snippet) - the same music was used in the WFLD one, so it's very likely that they were identical (except perhaps for the ...

WMBD Channel 31 - Nightmare Theater - "Werewolf of London" (Opening, 1961)

Not from Chicago, but close enough for jazz - here's a rarity indeed for this era, the opening for an edition of Nightmare Theater on WMBD Channel 31 in Peoria, IL, hosted by Milton Budd from its 1958 debut into later in the '60's. Here, he is introducing this night's presentation of the 1935 horror film "Werewolf of London."

This was from a 16mm film print saved by a former employee of WMBD-TV.

"Welcome to tonight's meeting of the A.F. of L. (sinister...

WBMX "Progressive" FM 103 (Commercial, 1980)

Here's a saucy commercial for WBMX - "Progressive" FM 103.

The call letters WBMX (standing for Black Music EXperience), were originally assigned to 102.7 on the FM dial in Oak Park/Chicago Illinois from 1973 to 1988. (That station frequency is now home to R&B station WVAZ - better known as V-103). In 1991, the call letters WBMX were assigned to 98.5 on the FM dial in the Boston area.

Contains some quick clips of the Chicago White Sox.

This aired o...

WVTV Channel 18 [Milwaukee, WI] - "Partial EBS Test" (1980)

Here's a partial test of the Emergency Broadcasting System on an unknown station in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. The person was recording some Woody Woodpecker cartoons and although they cut out the commercials they did decide to record most of the EBS test. It's pretty simple, consisting only of a single, rather discolored slide.

Did they have to traumatize kids by airing these tests during cartoons? It seems like they did the same thing in Chicago too from what I recall....

WGN Channel 9 - The Ray Rayner Show - "Clock Excerpts #3" (1974?)

The transfer of this video clip made possible by your generous donations!

Here's the good news - someone recorded The Ray Rayner Show at various times in the early seventies! Now the bad news - they only recorded the cartoons, and cut out nearly everything else. :-( I bring you the only snippets left - a few excerpts of the clock that they would show the time on, and in some cases, the chalkboard with the date, weather, and sports scores. Some might wonder why...

Son of Svengoolie - Assorted Clips Compilation (Part 9)

This was on the same tape as the other bits, so I am calling it part 9 from a compilation of assorted Son of Svengoolie clips. I did not make this compilation - it has been floating around the trading circles for a long time, and this is the best copy I've been able to find. It has some neat clips you will not see anywhere else.

Featuring:

What looks like an Entertainment Tonight (from Friday the 13th of - 1983, 1984?) report on local horror hosts from around th...

WD-40 (Commercial, 1977)

How do you make a name like WD-40 catchy? Just repeat it a bunch of times very fast.

"What do you have that sticks or squeaks?"

This aired on local Detroit TV on Thursday, April 7th 1977 (not Chicago TV, but still cool!)

WKBD Channel 50 - "Kaiser To Field Notice" (1977)

Here's a neat historical clip, even though it's not from Chicago. It's a public notice on WKBD Channel 50 announcing the sale of the Kaiser Broadcasting station to Field Communications.

Kaiser Broadcasting Company and Field Communications Corporation, filed with the Federal Communications Commission on March 16th 1977, an application seeking approval of the assignment of the license of WKBD-TV Channel 50 Detroit from Kaiser Broadcasting Company to Field Communications Corpo...
