Here's Part 2 of "New Year's Eve: Chicago Style" - a special on WBBM Channel 2. Unfortunately, the recording starts during a commercial break and we miss the first 10 minutes or so of the broadcast - still, lots of local fun in this one. :-) This part includes:

Mayor Jane Byrne and her husband Jay McMullen arrive at State & Randolph while John Coughlin narrates the "action". Longtime WGN TV and Radio veteran Roy Leonard can be seen as the MC of the event down on the stage.

Mayor Jane Byrne shushes the crowd and tells them to "calm down".

Ladies and Gentlemen...I give you...The 1980s! Fireworks and pandemonium ensue as the "sea of humanity" celebrates and Auld Lang Syne plays.

Bob Wallace reports again from Arnie's Restaurant before they cut to a shot of some horse's a-- (whoops!)

Warner Saunders at the Palmer house asks people for their New Year's Resolutions, including Paul Gookelka (sp?) who wants to quit smoking, before again "throwing a snowball" John Coughlin's way.

"Someone in the Fireworks Department doesn't have a clock..."

This aired on local Chicago TV Monday, December 31st 1979 into early Tuesday, January 1st 1980 from about 11:55pm to 12:05am.
