WFLD Channel 32 - Sci-Fi Cinema (Promo, 1971)
Here's another extreme rarity - a promo for Sci-Fi Cinema on WFLD Channel 32, which apparently aired at the time on Saturdays at 1pm and 6pm and Sundays at 1pm.
Notice that the color comes on at the end of this promo. This is something I haven't been able to figure out on this really old material. On some of it, if the program was in black and white originally, then the commercial breaks will be in black and white too, except occasionally the color will come on. I really don't think that it was an issue with reception (although it's possible), nor does it seem likely it was a recording option since like I said some times the color comes on while the recording is still going on. Does anyone know if back then TV stations would "turn off" their color broadcasting while black and white programs were on? I did notice that in the earlier days there would be some disturbance when they switched abruptly from black and white to color, so maybe they thought on a black and white program that it was better to just leave the whole thing in black and white - except occasionally they would turn it on? I don't know...
(Audio adjusted as well as I could)
This aired on local Chicago TV in 1971.
