Puttin' On The Kids - "Sussudio" (1986)

Here's an excerpt from the show Puttin' On The Kids (hosted by Michael Young) featuring a then 11 year old kid named Duffy Lucas lip-syncing and dancing his little heart out to Phil Collins' Sussudio.

This was from the age when Phil Collins would take a bathroom break and come out with a gold record.

This aired on local Chicago TV (without mercy) on Sunday, November 16th 1986.

Here's a promo for the USA Network's Kids lineup, featuring scenes from Calliope, Pumpkin Creek, USA Super Cartoon Saturday (gee, where have we heard that before?), In a Minute, Scholastic Sports Academy, and the USA Cartoon Express.

The music sounds vaguely Genesis-like. :-)

"In Chicago the kids' choice is...Channel 32!"

Not sure when this aired exactly, but based on evidence in the recording, 1979 seems like a good bet, although technically it could have been early 1980 too.

Alien Action Figure (Commercial, 1979)

Why they would make a kid's toy for this R rated movie is beyond me - but here it is, the stuff of nightmares - an action figure for kids, based on the creature from the the movie Alien.

Still, you have to admit that the thing is pretty wicked cool. :-)

This aired on local Chicago TV on Thursday, November 22nd 1979.

The Reluctant Robot (Part 7, 1980)

Here is Part 7 from another all but forgotten Field Communications special production - The Reluctant Robot. It was produced to get kids interested in Astronomical Science; pulsars, planets, space travel, etc. You can definitely see the influence from Star Wars a couple years earlier. The budget must not have been too great because the whole thing comes off as feeling like an episode of Dr. Who. (not that there's anything *wrong* with that) ;-)
