    It's Jim Ameche. He's Don Ameche's brother.

That doesn't sound like Bud Kelly's voice.

How would you fit a 30 minute old time radio show on vinyl records?

Jim Ameche was a disk jockey for New York MOR station WHN (1050 AM) in the 1960's. As for that album set, it apparently came out in 1970 from what I've seen on the Internet. This ad seemed to precede the more famous "120 Music Masterpieces" with John Williams in terms of production - though the Williams ad would end up being the longest-running of its kind.

Hey, they put old time radio on CD's these days!

Any NYC area residents remember this "Remember the Golden Days of Radio" ad campaign, which stations may have run it (WOR-TV? WPIX? WABC-TV?) and what would have been the mailing address? (Same deal for other cities such as L.A., Philadelphia, Boston and so forth.) I certainly have no memory to speak of, of this one. B.T.W., I saw another web page that suggests that this set - with narration by Jack Benny and Frank Knight - was originally released in 1969 (the $5.95 price tag is another key). If so, it must've been on for at least 2-3 years. And if this aircheck was 1973, we most certainly would've seen an early edit of "120 Music Masterpieces" (which, I.I.N.M., upon its initial release in late 1971/early 1972, went for $6.98).

And finally, the time period of this aircheck was around March 28-31, 1971. Just exactly when is the question.

Good Job, W.B.! How did you find the dates of the NAB Convention in Chicago?
Comment posted by FuzzyMemories on Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 at 8:29 PM

Funny you should ask. I was browsing Internet newspaper archives and seeing individual articles - one of which mentioned "opening events" on March 28, and the other mentioning an "ending luncheon" on March 31. Also, F.Y.I., the first NAB convention was held in New York City in 1923. In March 1973, the NAB held its 51st annual convention.

Huzzah! Thanks to the tip-in from our researcher friend John Lavalie, we now have the exact airdate and time of the movie - Sunday, March 28th 1971. 10:30pm! Wow. What a trip (no pun intended) back in time... it will be hard to "top" this one. (ok, that one was intended) ;-)

Ah, so now we've nailed it. No wonder the announcer said "Channel 32 welcomes the NAB Convention to town" - the 28th was the first day! Now, at what time on the 28th would the "Addams Family" episode have aired?
Comment posted by W.B. on Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 at 10:15 PM

Well, the Addams Family was a separate recording - so we don't know what day it aired. The NAB convention notice only aired during the Topper movie.

Hmm. I can only be sure that that "Addams Family" episode airing could've been of same vintage (1971).

I'm sure you're right - but I want to check again when I post the breaks from that.

"Here at FuzzyMemories, we will date no recording before it's time." ;-)

I have the LP "Jack Benny's Golden Memories of Radio" which was a 6-LP set. They mentioned the Longines Symphonette, because I have a model RCR-100 "Music Master" cassette recorder and AM/FM radio. Both of them are made by the same company.
