Description: Here's an almost 40-year-old clip (to the day!) that I found randomly at the end of a Umatic videotape. Thought not from Chicago TV, it's still interesting. (of course)
It's a rare clip from WMAL Channel 7 out of Washington, D.C. which became WJLA-TV Channel 7 less than a year later. It's from something called "Money Movie 7" where they were airing the film "State Fair" [1962] starring Pat Boone and Ann-Margret, Sadly, this was the only break that survived. Includes:
Some of State Fair, and then:
Money Movie 7 bumper with music sting
Commercial: Handi Wipes - "It Takes a Whole Roll of Paper Towels..." - "The kitchen cloth that really cleans up."
Commercial: Carpet Barn - Call 938-8900 - "We're tough to beat!" (featuring Dan Resin - Dr. Beeper from Caddyshack!)
Commercial: Computer Learning Center - a division of MCD Enterprises. Featuring M. Russell Thomas (A.K.A., Rusty Thomas) - 942-7802
Commercial: TV Guide - Covering a Political Convention as a Floor Reporter - Al Hirschfeld Columbo cover (voiceover by Taylor Grant)
State Fair resumes...
This aired on local Washington D.C. area TV on Thursday, August 12th 1976 during the 4:00pm to 6:00pm EDT timeframe.

Changed call letters to which the then-WMAL later adopted. The '7' logo used at the time carried over to the WJLA calls for many years thereafter. (Today they use the same 'circle 7' logo as the likes of WLS, WABC, KABC, KGO, KATV, etc.)

The woman in the Handi Wipes ad looks familiar. Very entertaining ad! I wonder how many kids pulled paper towels across the kitchen after seeing it?

Ok, I've been singing the paper towel song all weekend and have had to fight off urges to dance around in my kitchen and unravel the towel roll. This commercial should have its own video by itself.

Ah, the days when top-flight films were run on local TV stations via lo-res 16mm prints. (And how the focus was on some stations, you'd think they had Super 8 prints.)

How much more of the movie continued to run after the break until it got cut off?
