WTTW Channel 11 - Bleacher Bums (Part 1, 1984)

In honor of opening day for the Chicago Cubs, here's the long-unseen WTTW Channel 11 production of Bleacher Bums. Originally produced in 1979, and set in 1977, this broadcast is from 1984 (the last time it was shown on TV), when the Cubs had a good run at the pennant. Enjoy!

And if you're interested, be sure to visit friend of the museum Kasey Ignarski's website where you can purchase his book, Cubs By The Numbers - A Complete Team History of the Chicago Cubs by Uniform Number.

This aired on local Chicago TV on Saturday, September 29th 1984 during the 7pm to 8:30pm timeframe.

The Bleacher Bums was on WTTW in 1977, not 1984.

It was rebroadcast in Sept. 1984 and this is from that rebroadcast.

I know some people was mad as heck that night, lol!! The way the words at the bottom of the screen was soooo slow that I can't imagine how the people felt waiting for the numbers to see if they won, lol!!!

It would be interesting to hear an aircheck of the early Loop...get an idea of what they were putting out on the airwaves before they went personality-driven, unabashedly hardcore rock.

It says video not found or access denied. I can't play it at all.

It used a red/white/blue motif. That wouldn't do today, too offensive. Now it would be pink, cream and aqua, with a vegan represented just so no one feels left out.

I miss those big cans of Hi-C Citrus Cooler - it was the perfect drink to go with brown sugar cinnamon Pop Tarts.
