Heinz - "We've Got Your Pickle" (Commercial, 1977)

Here's a commercial for Heinz Pickles.

Uh, this one would fall under the category "unintentionally hilarious".

This aired on local Detroit TV on Thursday, April 21st 1977 during the 8 to 9pm hour. (Not Chicago TV, but still cool!)

Is it my imagination, or does the first kid in the ad look like the same one who later appeared in the 1981 film "A Christmas Story"?

W.B. - I think Christmas Story came out in 1983, but I agree it does look like him a bit. I don't think it's him, but I could be wrong.

Um, who eats a pickle with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich?

You would be surprised the things people eat with a pickle. Remember there are places who's specialty is fried whatever you can think of.

If it were 25 years older and in black and white, I'd say that kid is a young Ben Stein (back before he thought science was trying to kill him and / or steal his pickle).

Is the singer of the jingle Florence Wagner?

Certainly wasn't Florence Warner, I'll say that . . .

Thanks to "hardlines4" on YouTube, we now know the name and composer of the piece of music used as the theme to Movie Greats heard here!

It is the theme from the 1965 movie "36 Hours" - "A Heart Must Learn to Cry" and it is performed here by Marty Gold and his Orchestra.

Here's a link to download the full track:

PVX: I was a master control operator in the 1990s and 2000s, and the ISCI codes were 4 letters and 4 numbers. An Ad Council public service announcement started with the letter C and three letters for the campaign, the digits would start with the year the spot was created, the revision or version number, and the last 2 digits being the length of the ad, so a 30 second Smokey the Bear Forest Fire Prevention PSA from 1999 would have been CNFF-9130.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar's first commercial is for DAS Smurf Modelling Clay. He would have been 8 years old here.
