This was probably the night that Sportsvision had it's biggest rating. Of course a lot of that came from the fact that as Don Drysdale points out Ch. 32,9,7 & 2. were simulcasting parts of this game.

Lot of little things going on here. Seattles manager Dell Crandell would return to Chicago in 1985 and do some radio broadcasting with Lorn Brown for the Sox till 1988. Almost the entire coaching staff of the 2005 World Series team were players on this team. Walker, Baines, Hickey and of course Ozzie. Also Detroit Tiger manager Jim Leyland is the Sox a 3rd base coach. Then Sox manager Tony LaRussa did alright for himself in Oakland and St. Louis after GM Hawk Harrelson fird him a few years later.

It happened earlier in the game but Julio Cruz who scores the winning run was traded to the Sox earlier that year by the Mariners for Tony Bernazard. Bernazard looks like a man on a mission attempting to spoil it for the Sox and he injures himself and is not on the field when the Sox win.

First Chicago baseball championship since the 1959 American League champion Sox. None of that back to back champions stuff for Chicago. We take our time between titles.

What,Channel 5 wasn't showing this that night? What, they were showing a very "special" episode of "Mama's Family" that night, instead of the Sox?For shame!

But still what a great game, and great year of 1983 on the southside!

Actually, Ozzie wasn't on the 1983 team. He didn't come until 1985, he was actually aquired in the trade of LaMar Hoyt as Ozzie was originally drafted by the Padrees.

Yeah, I think there is an on-screen station ID for WFLD at some point. They were displaying Sportschannel's feed I guess.

Thanks Fuzzy for posting this clip. That was a fantastic night. Every local television were broadcasting the game. It was a shame the Sox got beat badly by Baltimore in the ALCS that year.

Our church usually went to a game or two a year and this was one of the scheduled games. For some reason my family was not able to go that night and we missed it! What a great time that would have been! We did see it on TV so that was nice! Thanks Fuzzy!

Thanks to "hardlines4" on YouTube, we now know the name and composer of the piece of music used as the theme to Movie Greats heard here!

It is the theme from the 1965 movie "36 Hours" - "A Heart Must Learn to Cry" and it is performed here by Marty Gold and his Orchestra.

PVX: I was a master control operator in the 1990s and 2000s, and the ISCI codes were 4 letters and 4 numbers. An Ad Council public service announcement started with the letter C and three letters for the campaign, the digits would start with the year the spot was created, the revision or version number, and the last 2 digits being the length of the ad, so a 30 second Smokey the Bear Forest Fire Prevention PSA from 1999 would have been CNFF-9130.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar's first commercial is for DAS Smurf Modelling Clay. He would have been 8 years old here.
